Columbia College Looking At Ways To Balance Budget
Columbia, CA — Officials at Columbia College are working to balance a $607,000 shortfall in the 2009/10 fiscal budget.
“We’re going to keep providing the same things, but we might not have as many sections of offerings,” says Dr. Joan Smith, Columbia College President. “I’m suggesting to students that when registration begins in the fall that they be the first ones in the door. Usually what we did in the past, and this will be changing, is we had wait lists and then hired additional adjunct faculty to teach courses for those on the wait lists. We’re not going to have money to do that at this point.”
The deficit could grow larger depending on the actions of the California legislature. Smith says that there are no current plans to cut any of the fulltime faculty.
