Mother Lode Fair A Popular Destination
Sonora, CA — The Mother Lode Fairgrounds have been a busy place this weekend despite the triple digit temperatures.
Besides the traditional carnival rides and grandstand shows, the Mother Lode Fair brings a chance for kids to learn life lessons through competitions and the livestock auctions. Fair Manager Jan Haydn Myer has said that over 300 students are showcasing animals this weekend.
“I was in 4-H for 11 years, and can tell you that it gives kids the speaking skills and confidence that they are going to need as they get older and go for job interviews,” says Leslie Bloom, Sheep Project Leader for Foothill 4H. “Also if they are raising livestock they learn the market, and what goes into raising and selling an animal.”
The large auction is held on Saturday and smaller version on Sunday.
Saturday evening’s grandstand entertainment is the truck pull competition and on Sunday it will wrap up with the Destruction Derby.
