Angels Camp Resident Killed In Single Vehicle Accident
Copperopolis, CA — 25 year old Kevin Ray Hawkins of Angels Camp was killed in a single vehicle accident either late last night or early this morning.
According to CHP Officer Jaime Castillo the accident was initially reported minutes before seven o’clock this morning near the Union Mine Store on O’Byrnes Ferry Rd.
Later it was reported that the accident actually took place south of the Union Mine Store near the Black Creek underpass on O’Brynes Ferry Rd. When officers arrived the engine was cold to the touch so the exact time of the accident remains unknown.
Should anyone have any information regarding this incident they are encouraged to contact the San Andreas CHP office at (209) 754-3541.
The CHP report indicates Hawkins was southbound at an unknown rate of speed. For unknown reasons he allowed his 1996 Jeep to drift to the right where it struck an asphalt curve. The vehicle then veered to the left and into the northbound lane. Hawkins then apparently lost control of the Jeep as it veered back to the right and it continued down a steep dirt embankment finally colliding with a barbed wire fence.
It appears that Hawkins was not wearing his seat belt.
This marks the 12th traffic related fatality in Calaveras County this year.
