Tuolumne County Suffers 18th 2009 Traffic Fatality

Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County suffered its 18th traffic related fatality in a multi vehicle accident at approximately 9:30 this morning on Hwy 108 and Via Este.
According to CHP Officer Mike Remmell a westbound vehicle was attempting to make a left hand turn onto Via Este. A red Acura was following and in an effort to avoid colliding with the turning vehicle, veered to the right.
The driver lost control of the car and crossed over the roadway into the eastbound lane where he was broadsided by an eastbound 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup. The Acura ended up in a ditch and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Identity of the driver has yet to be released by the coroner’s office.
