Update: Fire Near Don Pedro Reservoir
Update at 4:30 pm: CAL Fire reports that the forward rate of spread has been stopped at 16 to 17 acres. All aircraft have been released from the blaze, ground crews will remain on scene mopping up and working towards full containment for the next couple of hours. As initially reported by CAL Fire, the flames started in a vehicle along Highway 132 near Granite Springs Road and then spread to grass on either side of the roadway.
Update at 4:05 pm: The grass fire burning along Highway 132 near Granite Springs Road near Don Pedro Reservoir in Mariposa County is now 16 to 17 acres in size, but CAL Fire reports that crews are getting a handle on the blaze as aircraft are starting to be released from the scene.
Update at 3:35 pm: CAL Fire relays that the fire burning along Highway 132 near Granite Springs Road near Don Pedro Reservoir is 15 acres in size and moving at a rapid pace. The CHP has closed the westbound lane of Highway 132 at Granite Springs Road and traffic is being diverted onto Penon Blanco Road. CAL Fire reports that no structures are threatened at this time.
Original Post at 3 pm: Mariposa County, CA — CAL Fire TCU ground crews are heading to assist with a vegetation fire in Mariposa County between Don Pedro Reservoir and Granite Springs.
CAL Fire reports initially a caller reported a vehicle on fire in a turn out on Highway 132 near Granite Springs Road, the flames have now spread to both sides of the highway. There is no information on the size of the fire, but CAL Fire reports the flame’s rate of spread as “rapid.” We will have an update as soon as more information comes into the newsroom.
