Fees To Be Charged To Help Fight Real Estate Fraud

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — District Attorney Donald Segerstrom addressed the Board of Supervisors this morning in an effort to raise approximately $30,000 a year to hire a real estate fraud investigator.

While not a crime of great proportion in the county at this time, real estate scams are growing in intensity throughout the country due to the decline in the housing market and the subsequent dropoff in the economy.

By a 5-0 supervisorial vote Segerstrom received a pledge from the Board of Supervisors that $3 would be charged on specific pieces of paperwork involved with real estate transactions.

The program will have an initial sunset date of January 1, 2011.
