Supervisors Approve $160 Million Spending Plan

Sponsored by:

Sonora, Ca — The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors approved a $160 million budget Tuesday afternoon, with a decrease in spending of nearly $8 million from last year.

CAO Craig Pedro accredited the county´s decrease in revenue to a slowing economy, four years of record state deficits, and a county healthcare system that is still in a transition period.

As part of the fiscal year 2008/09 budget, the County will be laying off 23 workers of Tuolumne General Medical Facility, four from the Behavioral Health Department, three jail cooks, two from the Visiting Nurse Association and one from the District Attorney´s Victim Witness Program.

The County´s budget will be reassessed once the Supervisors know more about the state financial picture in Sacramento.
