Single Vehicle Linked To Multiple Calaveras Fires
Sonora, Ca — CAL Fire officials say a 1997 White Ford F150 that caused a string of 10 vegetation fires in western Calaveras and eastern Amador County on Wednesday, is believed to be the same vehicle that caused 10 more fires between Hwy 26 and Howard Ln. on Thursday.
The vehicle was stopped in Valley Springs just after 6:20pm Thursday. It was determined that sparks and hot debris were put off by the vehicle´s catalytic converter. The truck is owned by an unidentified Calaveras County resident who was unaware of the condition of the converter or the sparks being thrown from the tailpipe. The truck caused 15 acres worth of fire damage on Wednesday and seven acres on Thursday.
