Angels Camp, Ca — Eight were injured yesterday afternoon after a Calaveras Transit Bus struck a Lexus on Hwy 49, one mile north of Angels Camp.

CHP Officer Jaimie Castillo says the Lexus was slowing down as a vehicle ahead was turning off the road. The van rear-ended the Lexus, which then hit the back of a GMC Yukon.

There were no serious injuries reported. The driver of the bus, 60 year old Emmett Downs of Altaville, was taken to Mark Twain Saint Joseph´s Hospital with undisclosed minor injuries.

The driver of the Lexus, 83 year old Norman Souza of Sheep Ranch, was not injured. The driver of a GMC Yukon, 65 year old William Johnson of Rocklin, was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center with chest and shoulder pain.

The six passengers in the bus all reported minor injuries. They included 54 year old Naomi Lovejoy of Valley Springs, 29 year old Christina Eresman of Angels Camp, 13 year old Crystal Fiest of Arnold, 44 year old Greg Hahix of Valley Springs, 17 year old Kayla Savery of San Andreas and 15 year old Shaneese Rae of Arnold.

“The investigation is still being conducted, but preliminary reports indicate that the transit bus, by striking the rear end of stopped traffic, will be at risk,” says Castillo.
