Sierra No. 3 Sent To Sacramento For Restoration
Jamestown, Ca — On Friday, Sierra No. 3, the Movie Star Train at Railtown 1897, was loaded up and transported to the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento to begin initial work on its overhaul.
Park Supt. Mark Hada says it could be a couple of years before it returns back to Railtown. The effort will primarily focus on the restoration of the out of service boiler.
Money for the restoration came from a fund-drive held late last year, and early this year. Major donations came from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment, Sonora Area Foundation and Irving J. Symons Foundation. Total restoration of Sierra No. 3 is estimated to cost around $600,000.
