Few Counties Have Voting Machines Ready For June Election
Sacramento, CA — Just a few of California´s counties are prepared for the June primary.
State election officials say only five of the state´s 58 counties have voting systems that have been certified. They are Contra Costa, Sacramento, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Stanislaus counties.
Manufacturers of electronic voting machines must apply for state certification by January 31st to be ready for the June election. The machines have to comply with state and federal requirements that machines issue paper printouts, so voters can confirm their choices.
Several county registrars say they´re frustrated by the slow pace of state approvals. But state officials blamed the problem on delays in federal certification.
