Calaveras County To Install New Voting System

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Calaveras County voters will break in a new system as they go to the polls for this June´s primary election.

The board of supervisors approved the new optical scan system at Tuesday´s meeting.

The new machines will be installed at the county´s 16 polling places replacing the old punch card system which must be done away with according to federal law.

The new system uses paper ballots on which voters fill in a circle next to the candidates name.

The new machine then scans the filled in circles and records the votes. The new system has been certified by the California Secretary of State.

Officials with Omaha-based Election Systems and Software say the system is already being used successfully in Amador and Sacramento Counties.
