Murphys Water District Considers Rate Hikes
Murphys, CA — The Union Public Utility District is following many other districts in the area and proposing to raise its rates.
The district held a public hearing Tuesday to field customer questions on the proposed increase. Six people showed up and seemed to be OK with it, office manager Diane Severud says.
The current base rate of $29 would go up $2 every year for the next five years.
Severud says the extra money would help the district keep up with the cost of doing business.
The district provides water through 1,600 connections throughout the Murphys area.
The district board will vote on the increase at 7 p.m., May 17 at their offices on Main Street, Murphys.
