Update: Three Injured In HWY 4 Crash

Update at 6 p.m.: The CHP report that the wreckage has been removed and Highway 4 has reopened to traffic. Motorists can expect delays tonight while Caltrans crews repair the damaged bridge, according to the CHP.

Update at 5 p.m.:  The CHP is reporting that Highway 4 has been shut down just west of Stallion Way while tow crews work on removing an overturned Subaru. The roadway is expected to be closed for nearly two hours. Additionally, the CHP reports that a patient flown from the scene with major injuries was reportedly driving under the influence of a drug, what drug was not revealed.

Caltrans has also been called to the scene to survey the damage to the bridge involving a guardrail.

Update at 4:25 p.m.: An AirMed helicopter has landed near the scene of a Highway 4 collision where one vehicle has smashed into the side of a bridge. One patient was airlifted with major injuries to a Modesto Hospital.

Original post at 4:10 p.m.: Angels Camp, CA — First responders are on the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 4 where one hit the side of a bridge.

Major injuries are reported in the collision that involves a pickup truck and a Subaru between Appaloosa Road and Stallion Way in the Angels Camp area of Calaveras County. The Subaru struck the bridge and overturned, blocking the roadway. The CHP reports an air ambulance is headed to the scene and advises there are three patients. We’ll have an update as soon as more information comes into the newsroom.
