Woman Facing Charges After Asking Deputy For Directions

Sonora, CA — A woman who flagged down a deputy to ask for directions to Angels Camp is now facing several charges.

Reports indicate Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Deputy J. Teunissen was on routine patrol Tuesday when he was stopped by Christine McBrayer.

While assisting McBrayer, the deputy discovered her driver´s license was suspended. When someone is driving with a suspended license, it is policy to tow their car, so a second deputy offered to give McBrayer a ride into Sonora.

Prior to placing McBrayer in the patrol unit, deputies discovered she had several suspected ecstasy pills and a small amount of marijuana in her purse.

They placed her under arrest for possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana in a vehicle and driving on a suspended license. Lt. Dan Bressler with the Sheriff´s Department says the pills were of two types; some of the pills were red, imprinted with an exclamation point, and some were blue imprinted with a musical note.

Although deputies come across ecstasy on occasion in the county, Bressler says it is not as prevalent here as it is in the larger cities.

He believes that is the case because there are not a lot of “Rave” parties in the county and there is a legitimate fear by the younger demographic that ecstasy can lead to potentially lethal overdose situations.
