Murphys Celebrates Its Heritage

Murphys, CA — Murphys Heritage Day, formerly known as the annual homecoming, is Sunday.

Every year past residents of Murphys return for this old-fashioned community celebration.

Heritage Days gets started with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. in the Native Sons Hall.

At 10 a.m. is the community parade along Main Street. Parade organizers say it will be an old-fashioned hometown parade with everything from decorated bicycles and musical groups to classic cars and horse entries. This year´s grand marshal is Bill Mathis, also know as “Buggy Bill.” Mathis will drive his horse-drawn carriage down the parade route.

From 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Murphys Community Club hosts Sunday in the Park at the Murphys Community Park. Activities include live music, food, drinks, Bingo, a dunk tank and more. Live music will be provided by the Murphys Fanfare Four and the Calaveras Community Band.

Sponsored by the Native Daughters of the Golden West, the Heritage Luncheon is at noon.

Also, at 12 p.m. the library will host the Duck Races in Murphys Park.

Club President Roy Creager says the event is designed to bring families together for fun and relaxation.
