Tuolumne County Cell Tower Changes Looming

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Cell phone coverage may be getting better in Tuolumne County; however you may be asking “can you hear me now” in the mean time.

At Tuesday´s Board of Supervisors meeting, it was agreed to lessen restrictions when it comes to the Cell Tower Ordinance.

By consensus, the supervisors decided to free up close to 75,000 acres for possible cell tower construction by reducing the 500 foot setback from property lines, as well as allowing towers in some residential parcels.

The proposal will now go to county council and four county planning commissions before being returned to the board for a vote. Community Development Department Director Bev Shane says that final step may not occur until October or later.
