If I am admitted to the hospital, what are some things I or my family can do to ensure my safety?

Effective communication is a key ingredient in ensuring your safety in the hospital. Here are some important ways you can help hospital staff ensure your safety:

1.) Make sure that you bring with you, or have available, a complete list of all current medications you are taking, including medication name, dosage and the last time you took the medicine.

2.) Make sure that you understand what your plan of care is. Ask questions regarding your diagnosis, medications being given, treatments and tests. Encourage a loved one to be involved.

3.) Make sure that you communicate your current and past medical history, including allergies and any reactions to medications.
