“Fasting will reduce your calorie intake and you will lose weight. However, fasting can cause health problems including muscle loss. When you are fasting, your body goes into storage mode and will burn calories slower, decreasing your metabolism. That means that when you go back to eating regularly, you will gain more weight consuming the same amount of calories you did before your fasts because your body in in conservation mode.
Religious and cultural fasts are typically undertaken as an act of devotion, last from 24 to 48 hours, and are not intended to promote weight loss. Fasts lasting a day or two are unlikely to be dangerous for most healthy adults. But high-risk people, the elderly, anyone with a chronic disease, pregnant women, and children are advised against any type of fasting.
”
I’ve heard that fasting every other day is a great way to diet. Are there any pros or cons to fasting?
