What are some things hospital staff can do to prevent patient falls?
My aunt has a friend who suffered a fall while in the hospital. What are some things hospital staff can do to prevent patient falls?
The nursing staff performs hourly rounding of all patients in order to meet or anticipate any needs you may have, such as needing to go to the bathroom. Due to effects of their illness or medications, some patients are more prone to falling by trying to go to the bathroom by themselves. By checking on you hourly, the nurses can provide assistance to the bathroom and help prevent a fall. All patients are evaluated for their risk of falling and education is provided to prevent falls. Patients are encouraged to have assistance when getting on their feet.
