Elk Grove Motorcyclist Killed Near Murphys

Murphys, CA — A 49 year old Elk Grove motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon on Murphys Grade Rd. west of Murphys.

According to witnesses, Robert J. Gibson accelerated his 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle having just left Murphys. As Gibson entered a right hand curve his brake light was activated as the rear tire began to slide out from under the bike. Gibson was traveling westbound just as a 2001 Saab driven by 79 year old Llewellyn Carpenter of Murphys also entered the curve headed in an eastbound direction. Carpenter´s vehicle could not avoid Gibson´s bike knocking it to the ground and into the guardrail.

Llewellyn Carpenter and her traveling companion, 80 year old Louise Carpenter also of Murphys, suffered minor injuries and were treated at Mark Twain-St. Joseph´s Hospital in San Andreas.

Gibson´s sobriety is under investigation by the C.H.P.
