Twain Harte Man Found Sane By Jury

Sponsored by:

A jury in Tuolumne County has determined that a Twain Harte man was sane when he poured gasoline on his sister and lit her on fire.

The jury reached that conclusion yesterday after convicting 50-year-old Steven Richards on murder and arson charges last week.

Prosecutors say Richard also burned down his parents house in commission of the murder. Richards faces 27 years to life in prison, although he will probably serve his sentence in a state prison hospital because of his mental illness.

A psychiatrist testified during the trial that Richards suffers from hallucinations and delusions. Sentencing is set for May 18th.
