Service Workers Reach Agreement With University
Service workers who went on strike for one day last week have reached an agreement with the University of California.
The workers´ union says the new deal includes a substantial pay increase for its members, which include cafeteria, janitorial and groundskeepers at the university´s statewide campuses and five medical centers.
The workers went on strike April 14th to protest the lack of a contract and wages they said were too low. The contract expired last June, but was extended until January 31st. Details of the agreement will not be made public until the union approves it.
The agreement was reached after the two sides met several times.
