The state Department of Health Services says the teen birth rate among 15- to 19-year-olds, was 41 per 1,000 females from 2001 to 2003. That´s down from 1998 to 2000 when it was 49 per 1,000 females. The number of people diagnosed with AIDS who were 13 and older dropped to 14.7 seven cases per 100,000 people from 2001 to 2003, compared to 17.8 cases per 100,000 from 1998 to 2000.
The state´s public health officer says while the report shows a definite improvement, it also shows that work remains to be done.
