Sonora, CA– Caltrans plans to install an all-way stop next month at the intersection of Highway 49 and Shaws Flat Road in an effort to improve safety and manage traffic.
Transportation officials typically install all-way stops at intersections following engineering studies that evaluate traffic patterns, collision history, and visibility. These controls are commonly used to reduce conflicts between vehicles, slow traffic, and improve right-of-way assignment, particularly at intersections where traffic volumes are similar or safety concerns have been identified. Under the change, drivers on all approaches to the intersection will be required to come to a complete stop before proceeding.
Construction is scheduled for May, and drivers are being urged to watch for crews working in the area.
