Sonora, CA — 380 AmeriGas propane customers near Sonora have lost service due to an incident on Monday afternoon.
A company spokesperson relays to Central Sierra Broadcasting that a third party (landscaper) hit a gas line, causing a disruption in service. Fire officials responded and shut the system down for safety reasons.
AmeriGas was able to successfully fix the leak last night, and officials are testing the system today. There will be a large team gathering later today to start the restoration process.
The customers impacted are in the Quail Hollow Apartments, along with several other nearby homes and facilities.
The company has been providing updates to customers via phone and email. They ask that customers hold off on calling for updates so the team can stay focused and keep the restoration process going as quickly as possible.
AmeriGas reports that when restoration of service begins, someone over the age of 18 will need to be home for the system to be re-lit. The company adds that it recognizes the inconvenience this causes customers and has begun discussions about how to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
A similar incident occurred in December, with the same customers impacted, when a TUD crew was doing work in the area and damaged a gas line.
