Sonora Honored as Tree City USA

Sponsored by:

A tree planting took place at high noon yesterday… in Sonora… to recognize Arbor Day.

Mayor Marlee Powell, city councilman Hank Russell, and administrator Greg Applegate were all in attendence for the planting at Woods Creek Rotary Park.

“We´re very lucky in our city, as such a small city, to have an arborist on the staff who takes care of all this. Bill Seldon has brought these Montezuma Cypress,” said the Mayor.

Mayor Powell read a letter from the Arbor Day Foundation… and mentioned that Sonora´s recognition as a Tree City USA, in part, stems from the city having a full time arborist.

“This is a multi-purpose project, and an exciting time for us because, as I say, for a very small city, it´s unusual to be honored like this,” said Powell.

Yesterday´s event was a joint venture between the Sonora Beautiful Committee and the City of Sonora.
