San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors will meet on Tuesday.
The Board will formally ratify a State of Emergency declaration related to the Gann Fire, as requested by Sheriff Rachelle Whiting (Director of the Office of Emergency Services).
The proclamation opens the door for additional resources to help in the response and recovery efforts.
In addition, the board will have a conversation about developing an urgency ordinance to temporarily prevent the establishment of data centers as a land use in Calaveras County pending further study. The specialized spaces power internet, cloud computing, and digital applications, and are on the rise nationwide, with the expansion of artificial intelligence. Meeting documents note, “Data Centers have the ability to strain local power grids, consume a significant amount of water for cooling purposes, and produce offensive noises.”
Also, there will be a vote on changing a county ordinance to increase the cannabis cultivation tax from 40% of the voter-approved rate to 50% of the voter-approved rate, through December of 2030.
Tuesday’s meeting will open with closed session items at 8 am and the regular open session will start at 9 am.
