The Summerville Bears were defeated by the Calaveras Red Hawks 45-7 on Friday night in San Andreas.
Calaveras set the tone of the night from the opening kickoff. A recovered onside kick attempt gave the Red Hawks the ball on the Bears’ 38-yard line. A few plays later, Calaveras scored on a long touchdown run to give them the lead less than 2 minutes into the game. Summerville’s first drive would stall out, giving Calaveras the ball back with great field position. The Bears made the game interesting with a Karter Lee interception that he returned all the way to the Calaveras’ 5-yard line. The Bears were not able to score after Calaveras stone-walled Summerville twice from inside of the 1-yard line. From that point, it was all Calaveras. The Red Hawks would go into the half up 21-0.
Calaveras then scored a touchdown on the opening drive of the second half and added a field goal on their next possession. Summerville’s only points of the night came on a Cort Leslie touchdown pass to JT Oliva. Calaveras would go on to score two more touchdowns in the 4th quarter to end the scoring at 45-7.
Brayden Bustamonte won Black Oak Casino Resort player of the year for his work on the offensive and defensive line. He also delivered the Foust Hearing and Air Hot Hit of the Fame in the 4th quarter.
The Bears have a bye next Friday and return home on October 23rd, hosting Riverbank on homecoming night.
