Agencies Will Talk About Lyons Dam
Two area water agencies are working on a plan to enlarge Lyon´s Dam on the Stanislaus River´s south fork.
The dam would create a reservoir eight to ten times larger than the current one behind Lyons Dam. If it´s built, the enlarged dam would be the first major on-stream dam built in California since the dam on Melones Lake was enlarged in 1979.
Stockton East Water District, the Tuolumne Utilities District and other water officials plan to meet soon to discuss the project. The project has an estimated cost of $40 million dollars to $72 million dollars.
They say enlarging the dam would help supply water to homes, farms and businesses in Stockton and areas in Tuolumne County.
