Several Hundred At Anti-War Rally
Sponsored by:
Joining hundreds of other cities around the globe on Saturday, about 300 people marched in Sonora to protest the possible war against Iraq.
Cynthia King of Sonora was wearing a huge costume designed to mock U.S. imperialism. The large gathering of protesters marched from Rotary Park to the Courthouse Park in Downtown, where organizer Jim Toner spoke to the crowd denouncing the possible war with Iraq and the reasons the U.S. is giving for the war.
Unlike some similar rallies around the globe on Saturday, there were no reports of violence at the demonstration in Sonora.
