Thousands have said a final goodbye to five-year-old Samantha Runnion. The Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove was filled to capacity last night with people of all ages and races who came from throughout Southern California, many who knew Samantha only through news reports of her abduction and murder. Samantha´s mother Erin choked back tears when she spoke to mourners. She said, “Nothing can bring our baby back. But knowing that her death was handled with the utmost integrity and her life cherished by so many does bring some solace.” Orange County Sheriff Michael Carona drew a standing ovation when he moved to the podium to address the mourners. Holding back tears, Carona said Samantha was “America´s little girl.”
