Sharpshooter Misses Mark In Calaveras County
Sponsored by:
The Glassy Winged Sharpshooter is an insect that has Southern California grapegrowers under assualt,
losing millions of dollars. The bug spreads Pierce´s Disease when it feeds upon the plants, which is certain death to the plant itself.
Luckily for
Calaveras County vineyards, the Sharpshooter has been absent because of the efforts of the Calaveras farm bureau and local growers. Through thorough
inspections by the bureau, growers appear to be winning the battle.
Farm bureau officials also cite a cooler climate in the foothills has also helped in the
fight.
