A New California Fire
Sponsored by:
Firefighters have contained one Sierra Nevada blaze but another fast-moving fire has broken out in the
same general area northeast of Sacramento.
The Ponderosa fire started Friday afternoon near Weimar and quickly grew to 500 acres.
The
blaze is burning between the towns of Colfax and Auburn, about 40 miles northeast of Sacramento. Smoke is visible from Interstate 80, but the freeway is
open.
State fire officials have advised residents of a sparsely populated canyon to evacuate.
