Winery In Trouble

E and J Gallo Winery has agreed to pay a 95 thousand dollars fine levied by federal prosecutors for alleged Clean Water Act violations. The problems for the winery began in 1996 when fill material was deposited in a wetland near Cotati and the banks of Porter Creek, a tributary of the Russian River. Under the consent decree filed Thursday, Gallo must pay for a new permanent wetland in Cotati, as well as restoration of Porter Creek.
