Two Die In House Fire

Sponsored by:

Mountain Ranch, CA — Two people died in a house fire in Calaveras County. It happened just before 1am Wednesday on the 8000 block of Mountain Meadows Drive in Mountain Ranch. When Central Calaveras Firefighters arrived on the scene the home was fully engulfed in flames. Crews were told there was possibly two people still inside.

Central Calaveras Fire Chief Jeff Stone says, “The people inside awoke to find their house on fire. They were attempting to make their way out. The man believed that his wife was right behind him. When he got out he discovered that she was not right behind him.”

Firefighters attempted to rescue her and another man in the home. Chief Stone says they were unable to locate the victims and were forced out of the home by the heavy smoke and flames.

The flames spread to nearby vegetation but they were put out quickly. Chief Stone says two men escaped the blaze, but two adults, a woman and man died in the fire. Their names are not being released at this time. What sparked the blaze is still under investigation
