Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — A man incarcerated in Tuolumne County Jail has died in an apparent suicide.

As reported last week, Robert Haire IV was being held in county jail on $1 million bail following a series of domestic violence incidents. To read the earlier story, click here.

A deputy was doing a safety check in the J Housing Unit at the jail, and found Haire slumped against the door of his cell. Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Scott Johnson says Haire had a bed sheet wrapped around his neck. Haire was the only person in the locked cell. Deputies and emergency officials tried CPR, but Haire could not be revived.

Officials with the District Attorney’s Office and State Department of Justice were called in to assist with the death investigation. It is being investigated as a suicide. An autopsy was performed and the results are pending.
