SAN ANDREAS, CA – Lace up your running or walking shoes and head over to the Mark Twain Medical Center’s (MTMC) 5th Annual Spring Health Fair & Lupus Awareness Fun/Run Walk. The event takes place Saturday, March 22, from 8 a.m. until noon at Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys.

There will be over 40 booths with a wide range of health information and services in the community. There will also be some free health screenings including body fat, physical fitness levels, colon cancer screening kits, and metabolic screenings.

MTMC Spokesperson Nicki Stevens says, “One of the things that people might want to come out and take advantage of is the opportunity to meet with local insurance brokers relative to the new healthcare law. Those that are searching to change their plans or have overall questions about their insurance plans can get some answers.”

A main attraction at the event every year is the blood screenings. MTMC officials say for the best results you should start fasting after midnight and only drink water. The blood work is a five-panel blood analysis, including a chemistry panel, thyroid, complete blood count, lipid panel, and iron for women, PSA for men, and vitamin D deficiencies. The cost is $45 and a Bone Density Screenings is $10. For more information about the Spring Health Fair, call (209) 754-2564.

The 5th Annual Calaveras 5k Fun/Run Walk for Lupus Awareness is in memory of Linda Jean Mundy. The race starts at 8:30. It costs $10 for children ages 6 to 12 and $20 for ages 13 and up. Children under age 6 are free. For race information, call Paul Mundy at (209) 754-2604.
