Opening Hearts And Wallets
Sonora, CA — The Mother Lode community donated an estimated $14,710 during the 5th annual Clarke Broadcasting Cash Drive for Interfaith and donations continue to come in to help those in need.
Today is the coat drive and Santa Fly In, which kicks off a Standard Park in Sonora. The Director of the organization, Cathie Peacock, says it will go a long way to help those in need in Tuolumne County.
“A lot of the coats go for the people who live outside,” explains Peacock. “That’s really the hard part of it. It’s really their only way to stay warm often times.”
Gently used, or new coats, can be donated starting at 9 a.m. Then at 11:30 a.m., Santa Claus flies in via helicopter to the joy of all the kids.
Interfaith serves food to more than 36,000 people throughout the year, and provides clothing and other services as well. In four years, more than $118,000 dollars has been donated along with more than 5,500 coats.
If you miss today’s event, you can donate to Interfaith year round, Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at 18500 Striker Court off Tuolumne Road in Sonora.
