Sonora High Foundation Presents “Artirondack”
The Sonora High School Foundation is combining two things that are popular in the Mother Lode. One is art and the other is relaxing in a chair.
Chris Bateman, a spokesperson and member with the Foundation, was Thursday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
The Sonora High School Foundation began in 2008, raising money for the track and the stadium lights at the high school. The lights have been put in as a result of the funding and the track will likely soon be completed as a result of the passage of a recent bond issue.
Today the funds are used for student scholarships at both Sonora High and Cassina High School. They are also used for “mini-grants” of up to $1,000 each for student and educational activities on the campuses.
The budget is about $10,000 each year with money raised primarily through fundraisers.
This Spring, the Foundation is selling raffle tickets for five chairs, painted by five local artists, all with ties to Sonora High School. The combination of artists and chairs is called “Artirondack”.
Artists include Leslie Hurst, Ken Gittings, Ruth Burke, Irene Taylor and Hallie Bateman.
Raffle tickets are on sale now and the chairs can soon be viewed at the Sonora Spring Fling on April 25th and the Mother Lode Round-up Band Review at Sonora High School on May 6th. The tickets are $1 each and sold five at a time. The purchaser has a choice and can use all five tickets for just one chair or perhaps use each ticket for each individual chair.
