Winter Preparedness For Emergencies And Health
Sonora, CA — This weekend’s Mother Lode Views focuses on health and safety in Tuolumne County.
The guest will be Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services Coordinator Tracie Riggs and Tuolumne County Health Officer Dr. Liza Ortiz. The topics to be addressed will include help given to Calaveras County during the Butte Fire, preparing your home and body for winter, the alarming increase in opioid use in the county. Additionally, now that the Governor has declared a State of Emergency regarding dead trees what does it mean for the area.
Riggs explains, “For the tree mortality we are looking at utilizing the fire safe councils. There’s one here at Highway 108 and one up in Groveland. They would act on our behalf…essentially getting the contractors. We would work very closely in assisting them with coordinating the resources to begin removing trees and wood that’s already on the ground.” Riggs adds that right now there is an immense amount it laying on the ground, which will be a wildfire hazard especially in the summer months.
