Democrats Add McClintock’s Seat To Mid-Term Target List
Sonora, CA — You can expect the candidates to be well-funded in the race for the local District Four US House seat next year.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had earlier identified nine California congressional races as those they would target in 2018, and yesterday added Republican Tom McClintock’s seat to the list, bringing the number to 10.
McClintock defeated Democrat Robert Derlet 63%-37% in 2016. President Trump won the district by 16 percentage points.
The announcement to add McClintock’s seat to the target list came after Democrats were successful gaining seats in Virginia and New Jersey earlier this week.
Four Democratic candidates have been visiting the Mother Lode campaigning against McClintock in recent months, Regina Bateson, Roza Calderon, Jessica Morse and Rochelle Wilcox. Wilcox announced on Nov 4 that she has withdrawn but plans to remain active in “flipping this seat.”
15 of California’s 53 congressional seats are held by Republicans. House District Four covers much of the Sierra Nevada and foothills, including all of Tuolumne and Calaveras counties.
