San Andreas, CA — A Copperopolis man was charged yesterday for stealing several thousand dollars worth of cash by falsifying register transactions where he worked.

Bradley Smith, 28, was booked into the Calaveras County Jail yesterday morning on a felony charge of embezzlement following an initial investigation emanating from a call earlier that day by the owner of the Lake Tulloch True Value Hardware store, who reported that Smith had managed to surreptitiously steal money from the store over a period of time.

According to Calaveras Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Rachelle Whiting, the owner said he discovered over the past two months that Smith had managed to squirrel away several thousand dollars in cash over numerous fake transactions at the check-out counter.

Sgt. Whiting reports that during their visit deputies not only collected receipts and video surveillance footage for their investigation, they also were able to arrest Smith who had showed up for work.
