Second Weekend and Pre-Veterans Day November Events
There are many events planned for the weekend of November 9th, and 10th. First, the Tuolumne County Historical Society will host a used book sale this Friday. The sale will take place from noon until 4 PM, inside of the Tuolumne County Museum off Bradford Street in Sonora. There will be lots of gently used books to choose from in many genres, including historical and contemporary books, as well as children’s books.
Dance Like Nobody’s Watching at the Aronos Clubhouse on Saturday from 7 to 9 PM.
The Calaveras Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Task Force will hold their 3rd annual fundraiser dinner on Saturday November 9th from 5 to 9 PM at Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys. This is a formal dinner with a special guest speaker, raffles, and both silent and live auctions. The funds will be used to support forensic DNA research. Tickets and details are here.
The All Saints Catholic Church, Ladies Guild presents a Christmas Boutique Fundraiser inside of the All Saints Parish Hall on Cherokee Drive in Twain Harte. The event will take place over a three-day period beginning Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM. On Saturday, the hours run from 9 AM to 6 PM. It all wraps up on Sunday from Noon until 2 PM. Calaveras Humane Society is hosting the Winter Pet Pawtraits photo event. Get professional pictures of your pet with a variety of whimsical, winter- and holiday-themed options. Appointment and donation details are in the event listing.
The Mountain Youth and Community Theatre in Sonora (also known as MYACT) presents “Anastasia the Musical: Youth Edition”. This play is a magical retelling of the story of the lost princess, Anastasia Romanov. This is an all-ages event. Performances are Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through the 17th. The Sonora Chamber of Commerce presents 2nd Saturday Art Night from 5 to 8 PM in Downtown Sonora. Businesses and galleries in downtown Sonora on both sides of Washington Street will participate by offering sales and being open later. Expect to see artists of all types of arts, paintings, live music performances and perhaps some theatrical art as well.
The West Calaveras Rotary will host a Veterans Day dinner on Saturday. This will be held at the Jenny Lind Veterans Hall in Valley Springs. The dinner will be held from 5:30 to 9:30 PM. Tickets details are here, the proceeds will provide funding for scholarships and community projects.
Join Fourth Wall Entertainment for “East of Oz” the new twist on the old tale is what might have happened if Dorothy’s house had landed on the Wicked Witch of the West instead of East. The dystopian version of Oz features familiar characters who tangle with the Wicked Witch of the East in this jukebox musical. Performances run through Nov. 17 on Friday and Saturday nights at 7pm, matinees on Sunday at 2 pm.
The last performances of Sierra Repertory Theatre’s “Into the Woods” are this weekend at the East Sonora location. Read a blog about the play here. In recognition of Veterans Day, every National Park throughout the United States will offer free admission at the entrance. This includes Yosemite National Park this Monday. Vehicle reservations are not needed to visit Yosemite, and you will not be charged an entrance fee.
