Waste Fees Going Up

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The cost to dump grass and yard waste at the CAL Sierra Earth Resources Facility is going up, but not as high as originally proposed.

Waste Management recently brought a proposal to the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors to increase the cost to dump one cubic yard of waste from $5 to $7. It was to keep up with inflation. In addition, they proposed eliminating the ½ cubic yard minimum, which currently costs $2.50. After hearing complaints from the public, a decision on the matter was postponed until yesterday.

As part of the compromise that was approved at the Board meeting, the ½ minimum will remain in place. It will cost $3 this year, and jump to $3.50 in 2014. The cost to dump one cubic yard will increase to $6 this year and $7 in 2014.

The new price structure was approved 5-0 by the Board.
