Death Threats Put A Murphys Man Behind Bars

Sponsored by:

Murphys, CA — Calaveras Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home around 7pm on Friday night in the 4800 block of Darby Russell Road in Murphys, after a report of a verbal dispute.

Deputies say an argument erupted between Ray Turner and 56 year old, Arrestee Stephen Shennum of Murphys. They say the argument stemmed from financial matters between Turner, a caregiver, and 88 year old Marvyl Shennum, Arrestee Mother. Sheriff’s Officials say Shennum accused Turner of stealing money.

They say during the yelling Arrestee allegedly threatened to kill Turner. Deputies say Arrestee, who lives in a separate house on the same property, was drunk.

Arrestee was ordered not to re-enter his mother’s house or he would be arrested for trespassing. Deputies then left the residence and nearly 20 minutes later he went back into the house screaming death threats.

Arrestee Shennum was arrested on the charges of Criminal Threats, Trespass in a Dwelling, and Unreasonable Noise. He was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.
