Arrests In Museum Robbery
Mariposa, CA — Three people have been arrested in connection to a robbery at a state-owned museum in Mariposa.
As reportedly previously, thieves went into the California Mining and Mineral Museum and stole more than $1 million in precious metals, mostly gold, back on September 28. The suspects were armed with pickaxes, and smashed through display cases to access the gold and gems. Everything was captured on surveillance cameras within the museum.
Evidence collected led to the arrests of 40-year-old Edward Rushing III of El Dorado County, 43-year-old Matthew Campbell of Sutter County, and 41-year-old Jonathan Mathis, also of Sutter County. The men are also allegedly linked to other crimes in the region. The CHP is leading the investigation, and officials say that more arrests could be forthcoming. There is no word yet if any of the stolen property has been located.
