Foundation Raises $27,000 For Youth

Sponsored by:

Angels Camp, CA– The Calaveras Mentoring Foundation has donated $27,000 to the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program.

An impressive $23, 500 was raised at the 2011 Calaveras Follies in April, and the O.A.R.S.’ annual Mokelumne River Rafting Adventure in June was also another successful fundraiser for the Foundation this year.

“We are very grateful to our sponsors and our community for their continued support of youth mentoring,” said Peggy Lucas, president of the Calaveras Mentoring Foundation. “This was our first year of raising awareness and support for the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program, and we are extremely pleased that we were able to achieve our fundraising goals.”

The 2011 Calaveras Follies was the seventh annual gala and lip-synched musical revue with community celebrities as the stars. The Calaveras Follies has become a signature event in Calaveras County. This year’s show was directed by Isabel Franke and produced by Marian Coahran, Peggy Bishop and Scot Bishop.

Over 100 community members came together to create the extravagant evening, which featured a buffet, a variety of local wines and beers, the Elegant Follies Raffle of baskets worth $1,000 each, and a new Follies Auction. The raffle and auction alone generated over $10,000.

The Mokelumne River Rafting Adventure has been an annual gift from local rafting company O.A.R.S  for the past eight years.

The Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program is a countywide program administered by the Calaveras County Office of Education and funded by grants and donations. Its mission is to connect Calaveras young people in first through twelfth grades with safe, positive adult role models who will offer support, guidance and friendship and help the youth make healthy life decisions.
