Bill Would Eliminate Furloughs
Sponsored by:
Sacramento, CA — A bill that would end the three-day-a-month furloughs for state workers has passed the California Senate and now moves to the Assembly.
The measure was approved by a 30-6 vote and is part of an overall jobs package.
The Associated Press reports that the bill would exempt employees at agencies that receive most of their budgets from fees or the federal government.
Those include the Department of Motor Vehicles, where customers have seen their wait time increase since furloughs began last year. 80,000 state workers currently take mandated furlough days.
