Drugs Dropped Off

Sponsored by:

Copperopolis, CA — A number of outdated medications were placed in the hands of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department Saturday.

The County School Department, Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Sheriff’s Department joined forces for the first Drop Off Your Drugs Day with no questions asked and no names taken.

The Lake Tulloch Plaza was one of five locations used for the event which had the sole purpose of removing unused and outdated medications that might be used for something other than their intended purpose.

Deputy Rick Muckey from the Narcotics Enforcement Unit commented that while not a large number turned out in Copperopolis, those who did brought plenty of medications that will now be properly destroyed by the Sheriff’s Department.

Muckey added that this was as much an “awareness” campaign as it was an effort to secure medications that might fall into the wrong hands. He also stated that after a review of the process Drop Off Your Drugs could become a regular event in the County.
